Himalayan Pink Salt Facts

Pink Himalayan salt is a rock salt mined in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains in India. It is high in purity and has very good conductivity properties. This makes it ideal for use in a wide range of applications including cooking, baking, health care, cosmetic and industrial applications. It is also used as a natural alternative to distilled water for household and commercial uses in place of table salt.

Himalayan pink salt has a number of unique characteristics that set it apart from other salts. It has trace amounts of calcium, magnesium, bromide, zinc, and potassium, just to name a few. These trace amounts of minerals make it ideal as a substitute for distilled water and are known for their delectable taste. Many people have found that trace amounts of Himalayan pink salt can be substituted for other mineral-based water softeners such as sodium or potassium. It also offers the advantages of having very high conductivity and low absorption.

Himalayan rock salt was first mined in the Punjab province of India, but today it is mined in various locations throughout the world. The most recent deposits are located in China and Pakistan. The longest mining operation took place in the late 19th century in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains in Pakistan, but the longest active mining period is from the late 1700s when it was still being mined in Punjab. Production continued into the early part of the 20th century.

Himalayan pink salt has been shown to lower blood pressure and increase cardiovascular efficiency in laboratory rats. Some evidence also suggests that it may have a positive effect on some types of cancer. However, there is no adequate amount of scientific evidence at this time to support these claims. There are several side effects associated with taking Himalayan pink salt, however. They include diarrhea, vomiting, weakness, convulsions, and even coma.

Like potassium, magnesium is a mineral found in many of the same minerals making up salt. It is possible, however, that the benefits of magnesium could be greater than the potassium because magnesium is more abundant in the human body. A recent study suggested that Himalayan pink salt may have strong beneficial effects on blood pressure and potassium.

One of the more recent studies to make claims regarding the effects of Himalayan salts was performed in Barcelona, Spain. In a study conducted by the University of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Feed Research, test subjects were given a combination of three different salts, one of which contained a significant amount of magnesium. The study did not separate the effects of magnesium and calcium chloride, two of the most commonly used salts in the United States. Mice were fed a range of diets, and those that were fed a magnesium-rich diet had significantly lower blood pressure than those who received a control diet. The calcium salts did not show any significant effects.

Studies on Himalayan pink salt have indicated other potential benefits. One study comparing smoked salmon with the flavor from ordinary store-bought salmon found that the flavor differences between the two were almost negligible. Salt does alter the flavor of food, but it is unclear whether the change is noticeable enough to be of significance. Another study comparing flavor in Japanese sea kelp with that from normal commercially available sea kelp found that the flavor of the latter was more similar to the flavor of seaweed. It is not clear what this would mean for consumers.

As with most dietary supplements, there are many different products on the market containing Himalayan salt. It is important that you check the labels carefully when considering a product. Many contain other ingredients added for the purpose of making the product more appealing to the eye, and some of these additives can actually be harmful. While the Pink Himalayan salt does meet the minimum recommended daily intake of needed minerals, there is no evidence linking its use to any adverse effects. If you are interested in trying Himalayan salt, make sure you do your research before buying.
